Fayette County High School's Antonio Messick might not have been well known previously around recruiting circuits, but that didn't stop him garnering a big fan.
Messick was attending just his third camp, but he must have made a special impression. He earned himself his first scholarship offer and wasted no time accepting. On Saturday, Messick verbally committed to play for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Tech's head coach Paul Johnson met with Messick after the camp and extended the scholarship offer.
Messick certainly has the raw talent to make an impact for the Jackets. At 6'3 and 195 pounds he already looks the part. His strength and 4.5 second 40 yard dash give him a chance to be something special.
"He's a specimen," says Fayette County coach Mike Davis. "He's a good student. He's got good character. Once they see what's going on with him, a lot more teams will come after him."
Messick played in a heavy-run offense so his numbers last year weren't flashy, but the talent is apparent. The Tigers fully expect to take advantage of the big wide out this year. The coaches are getting him ready for a heavy workload in 2012. "We're going to make him confident," says Davis. "We've told him the ball is coming. You just go get it."
