Fayetteville Main Street is planning a variety of family events on Oct. 27 in Downtown Fayetteville. Starting at the Gazebo at 10 a.m., residents can shop at an extended Market Day that runs until 5 p.m. Kids will be able to visit the vendor booths and downtown businesses for trick-or-treating from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. Also, at 2:30 is the first “dog” costume contest sponsored by the Rotary Club. The costume contest will begin at 4:00 for children ages 13 and under, with prizes awarded in different age groups. During the day, everyone is encouraged to view the hundreds of decorated pumpkins on display across the street at the Old Courthouse lawn. Please call 770-719-4173 for more information.

Peeples Elementary School, located at 153 Panther Path, Fayetteville, is hosting a Pumpkin Fun Run on Oct. 27. It includes a 5K run and a one mile run/walk. The race begins at 8:30 a.m. Race proceeds benefit the Peeples Elementary PTO. This race is part of the PTC Running Club Grand Prix Series. The Fayette County Republican Party will be organizing precinct door to door canvassing every Saturday morning starting at 10:30 a.m. from our Headquarters at 111 South Glynn Street in Fayetteville from now until the November election. We are looking for volunteers willing to hand out literature and help encourage Fayette County voters to go out and vote this Nov. 6. Pancake Breakfast and Griddle Gallop 5K & 1 Mile Walk/Roll on Oct. 27. Registration and check in at 7 a.m. and race at 8 a.m. The event takes place at Christian City, 7345 Red Oak Road in Union City. Cost is $25 for race registrations before 10/24, and $30 on race day. Registration includes a full pancake breakfast and event t-shirt. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City is planning "Students Day at the National Weather Service" on Oct.r 27, from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. The event is targeted to Elementary and Middle School students and will allow them to participate at various interactive stations to learn about meteorology and atmospheric science. Admission is free.

Fayette County Young Republicans; our goal is to create opportunities to inform, educate and engage our generation about the issues facing our county, state and country. Senator Ronnie Chance is our speaker for the upcoming meeting on Oct. 23. We will meet at the Partners Pizza in Tyrone at 7 p.m.

The Summit Family YMCA will be hosting a Fall Festival on Oct. 27 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a costume contest, crafts, pumpkin painting, games, food, live entertainment, and a haunted hallway. The event is free of charge and open to the community. In addition to the fall festival, the Summit is also hosting a costume swap. You can bring in an old costume and swap it for another one off of our rack free of charge. The goal of this program is to give the opportunity for your child to receive a new costume without having to purchase one again this Halloween. The Summit Family YMCA is hosting a ladies self defense course on Oct. 29 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. and is open to women only ages 15 and up. The course will be taught by the Coweta County Sheriff’s department. The class is free and open to the public. You must register in person at the membership desk at the YMCA. Calling all runners! On Oct. 27, the kids at The Children’s Village need you to run in their 1st Annual Griddle Gallop 5k run & 1 mile walk and roll. Race entries are only $25 if you register before Oct. 24 and $30 if you register on race day. Participants will receive a delicious pancake breakfast and race day t-shirt. Beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, a Fall Barbecue and Music Festival will be held at Christ Our Hope Lutheran Church, 2165 Highway 138, SW, Riverdale, GA 30296. The music portion of the festival will begin at 5:30 PM, followed by a Dessert Reception at 7:00 PM. The concert will feature: Voices of Atlanta Cadence, (An African-American a cappella male chorus), St. John’s Episcopal Church Bell Choir, Special Guest Soloists from the Sabine Center for Music, the Christ our Hope Lutheran Church Choir and other Soloists. A Free-will Offering will be received benefiting the church’s choral Scholar program.

The Fayette County Elections Office is holding advance voting through Friday, Nov. 2. The polls are open from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. at three locations – Fayette County Elections Office, 140 Stonewall Ave. West, Suite 209, Fayetteville; Peachtree City Library, 201 Willowbend Road, Peachtree City; and Tyrone Town Hall, 881 Senoia Road, Tyrone. Saturday voting will be held on Oct. 27, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., at all three locations. A fourth location in the Public Meeting Room at 140 Stonewall Ave. West in Fayetteville will be open Monday, Oct. 29 – Friday, Nov. 2. Registered Fayette County voters can participate in advance voting at any of the locations. There will be no voting on Monday, Nov. 5. Heritage Church in Fayetteville will host a Reformation Conference on Oct. 28. Dr. Howard Dial, Pastor Emeritus, from Berachah Bible Church, Fayetteville, will be the speaker. The Fayette County Humane Society is desperately seeking golfers for its first charity golf tournament, "Fore the Paws," which will be held on Nov. 7, at the Braelinn Golf Club in Peachtree City. The $85 per person ticket price includes green fee, golf cart, range balls, continental breakfast, and awards luncheon buffet. Proceeds will be used to fund Fayette County Humane Society's spay/neuter program and to provide veterinary care for rescued cats and dogs. Tickets are on sale now through October 31. The Hopewell UMC Pumpkin Patch is open for business now through Oct. 31, seven days a week 12:30 to 7:00 p.m. Come and purchase a pumpkin and help the church fund their mission projects.
