Sara Harp Minter Elementary School will host a 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run on Nov. 3. The race is part of the Elementary Grand Prix Series and is sponsored by The Rotary Club and The Peachtree City Running Club. The Minter Trail Blazer 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run will be held at the school, located at 1650 Georgia Highway 85 South. The 1 mile fun run/walk will begin at 8:10 a.m. and the 5K run/walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. The registration fee is $20 for adults, $15 for students and phantom runners, and a maximum cost of $50 for families. 12th Annual Harvest Classic 5K Run/Walk State Championship and a Kids Fun Run on Nov. 3 at 8 a.m. at new Hope Baptist Church in Fayetteville, Building C Sports Center. Pre-registration is $20 ($15 for Kids Run) if recieved by Oct. 26 registration after Oct. 26- race day is $25 ($20 for Kids Run). There is a $5 discount/person for families of four or more. The Fayette County Republican Party's November First Saturday Breakfast will be held at 9 a.m. on Nov. 3, at the IHOP, 705 N. Jeff Davis Dr., Fayetteville. Karen Handel, former candidate for the Republican Party nomination for Governor of Georgia, will be the guest speaker. Karen was elected Secretary of State of Georgia in 2006 making her the first elected Republican Secretary of State in Georgia's history and the second woman elected to that position. She served as Secretary of State of Georgia from 2007 until she resigned in January 2010, to prepare for her campaign for nomination for governor. All interested Republicans are invited to attend. The 23rd Annual Christmas Marketplace and Timeless Treasures sale is Nov. 3, from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Fayetteville First United Methodist Family Life Center. There will be more than 70 unique vendors plus food and drinks. New this year, the United Methodist Men will set up the Shred Doctor in the parking lot by the church office and Holiday Inn during the Christmas Marketplace from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. They will shred documents and magazines for a nominal fee. The United Methodist Church in Brooks, will offer a beginning dance class in “Rhumba”.  Beginning Nov. 3,  from 7 to 8:30 p.m. through Dec. 1 with no lesson the Thanksgiving weekend. The location is perfect, as it is centrally located to Newnan, Peachtree City, Senoia, Griffin and Fayetteville.  The “Rhumba” is a very popular dance to songs of today and yesteryear, and has stood the test of time.  This dance will be just in time for the up-coming holiday parties. Lake Peachtree Cleanup – Volunteers Welcome! Join Rivers Alive, the City of Peachtree City, and Keep Peachtree City Beautiful to clean up Lake Peachtree on Nov. 10, from 9 a.m. to noon. Meet at the Battery Way docks for registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. Please carpool or golf-cart-pool, and wear boots or sneakers and bring work or rubber gloves, water, sunscreen, and litter “grabbers” or kitchen tongs. Kids and teens (5-17 years) must be accompanied by an adult, and waivers will need to be signed at the registration table. Garden Lights, Holiday Nights – the city’s newest holiday tradition – transforms the Atlanta Botanical Garden into a giant magical kaleidoscope Nov. 17 - Jan. 5, with more colors, more displays, and a cast of characters to boot. The light show extravaganza, which debuted in 2011, returns with more than 1.5 million energy-efficient lights that blanket the Garden’s 30 acres each evening from 5 -10 in a rainbow of shimmering color and dozens of new attractions. Dementia Caregiver Support Group - The Sixty Plus Program at Piedmont Fayette Hospital offers a monthly support group for the caregivers of older adults with memory loss. Designed to be both informational and supportive, the group will provide a confidential and welcoming atmosphere for family members and friends who want to learn more about dementia. The emotional, medical, legal and financial aspects of this condition will be discussed at meetings. The group is facilitated by a licensed social worker and is open to anyone in the community. Co-sponsored by Sixty Plus Older Adult Services and the Alzheimer’s Association. The group meets the Third Wednesday of each month from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Piedmont Fayette Hospital, West entrance, 1267 Building Cancer Wellness Center, third floor.
