I'm waiting to be asked Mr. President

2012-12-01

By Mary Jane Holt

I could hardly believe the words I was hearing as President Obama, on Wednesday of this week, asked Americans to tweet, write, email, or call their congressmen and give them a list of what all they - the voters, the citizens, every day Americans - will have to do without if they experience a $2000 tax hike!

What I would really like for him to do is ask me to tell those same congressmen how to CUT THE SPENDING.

I am no fool! I KNOW you have to do without things when you cut your spending. When you make a budget there are items that stay and items that go -- and in a prosperous year (when wise management results in surplus!), there may be items which can be added. I want to scream to any listening ear in Washington

STOP THE SPENDING.

Yes, I get it! I hear you when you tell me I will suffer from the cuts. I… and my family… and my friends… Some might even die if certain drugs are made unavailable or expensive medical procedures do not get “approved”, if foods
are not adequately inspected, if roads are not properly constructed
and repaired, if our defense is not provided for. I GET THAT!

I may not be able to eat the healthier more expensive foods I would prefer or buy new clothes or go to a movie! (Actually, I can’t recall the last movie I saw…)

There may be some who starve to death, become cold, homeless and suffer in ways I cannot imagine. In fact, that WILL happen unless those with compassionate and giving hearts reach out to them and help.

But under
NO circumstances,
and in
reference to NO
need, did I, as a voting American
citizen, ever give Congress
the right to spend money we
do not have. I don’t do that
and I am fed up with my so
called representatives doing
it!

I am almost ready to
march! I marched one time –
about 20 years ago for Piedmont
Hospital to get the CON
to build a hospital in my home
county (I hope I don’t live to
regret that --- I am trusting
they are fixing the emergency
room issues at their three south
metro locations and I am
awaiting a year-end report of
the details.), but the point is - I
spoke up! I speak up and speak
out when things are just plain
wrong. Or when I know things
can be better.

I am sick of the spoiled
rotten attitudes of so many
Americans who think we
should not have to struggle –
people who believe “if plastic
can buy it, then we should
have it.” Have we lost our
minds?

Yes, I know there are
VERY wealthy men and
women in this country.

Sure I
would like to have them put
more money in the system and
help meet the needs of those
who are truly in NEED – not
in WANT! But I believe it
should be the choice of the
person who has taken the
greater risks in earning that
money as to how that money
will be spent.

You see, I KNOW there is
a Higher Power, a Watchful
Judge who has made it quite
clear in the Holy Scriptures
and throughout the ages that it
all evens out eventually…

Never will I agree that a
government of elected officials
should have the right to take
more and more and still more
money from the lowliest wage
earner or the most successful
entrepreneur. NO! Taxes
should be minimal! MINIMAL,
people! LOW!

Personal responsibility
should be HIGH and encouraged,
not discouraged - and
EVERYbody should pay
something toward the common
good of all.

Capitalism is amazing! To
be able to take pride in one’s
accomplishments is awesome.
To acknowledge those who
have helped achieve such accomplishments
is even more
awesome.

If you manage to earn
enough capital or if somebody
believes in your idea or product
strongly enough to give
you the capital to start a successful
enterprise, you absolutely
should pay fair wages
to those who work for you, but
the profits are yours and you
WILL be held accountable in
this life and the next for what
you do with those profits!

It is called STEWARDSHIP.
God help the Congressman
or President who wants to
take all that responsibility onto
him or herself.

DO NOT ask me how it
will hurt me if you raise my
taxes. ASK ME where to cut
the budget so nobody’s taxes
get raised – so personal responsibility
can reign again!

Ask me THAT, Mr. President
and then I eagerly will sit
down with you and we will
start making a list.
