Sheriff Wayne Hannah honored four deputies on Tuesday for their life saving response to an in court heart attack suffered by Glenn Howell of the Fayette County Public Defender's Office back in March of this year.
Howell was in a session of the Fayette County State Court when he suffered a massive heart attack. The response of the four, Investigator Chad Cowart, Lieutenant Francis Cavendar, Bailiff Ron Evans, and Deputy Warren Collinsworth, successfully stabilized Howell long enough for medical personnel to respond.
At Tuesday's ceremony, Howell suspended his usual sense of humor for a moment to express his heartfelt gratitude for their actions.
"God bless you, there's not anything I could say adequate enough to thank you. Not just for what you did that day but for your thoughtfulness since then. I'll never forget it."
Lieutenant Cavendar called Howell an "inspiration to a lot of us, the way he takes his job seriously and takes care of the people he's responsible for. We've all admired that. This would have been one hell of a loss."
