“Every one can help someone at some time” is the message teacher Jackie Simmons wanted students at the Fayette County Alternative School to take away from a recent food drive to provide holiday meals to families in need.
The school adopted 25 families from the Angel Tree Project sponsored by the school system’s CARE (Children at Risk in Education) program. Students in every homeroom pitched in to provide a complete meal per family that included stuffing, corn, peas, dessert (cake or brownie mix), and cranberry sauce.
The students and staff celebrated their success with an ice cream social and a visit from Santa Claus.
“We are very proud of the staff and students. We met our goal and had a chance to see Santa. Everybody loves Santa,” says Simmons.
