Diabetes Support Group meets second Tuesday of every other month; beginning January 8, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Piedmont Fayette Hospital in the 1279 Building Conference Room B. Hosted by Denise Bennett, MS, RD, LD, CDE Clinical Lead, Diabetes Education. The support group provides ongoing education, networking and support for people affected by diabetes. Peachtree City’s annual Christmas Tree Recycling will be held on Saturday, January 5. Bring your tree (all decorations and tinsel removed, no flocked trees) to the Peachtree City Recycling Center (Rockaway Road at Highway 74 South), the Peachtree City Home Depot, or the Kedron Shopping Center between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Brooks United Methodist Church in Brooks, will offer Beginner Cha Cha lessons starting Jan. 12, through Feb. 2, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. The cost is $35 per person for the entire four week session. For those who do not want to make a commitment, they can try a class for only $10 per person, per class, as a drop-in. The Cha Cha will be taught from the ground-up in order to give students confidence on the dance floor. These classes have two well experienced instructors, with 40 combined years of dancing experience and teaching, with some of the latest moves. These classes are ideally located to Brooks, Senoia, Griffin, Fayetteville, Newnan and Peachtree City. American Legion Post 50 will be holding their "Oratorical Contest" on Jan. 20, at 1 p.m. Location will be the Commemorative Air Force hanger, Falcon Field, PTC. Scholarship awards are presented to finalists ranging from $150 for our local post winner and growing to $18,000 for the national champion. The South Metro Rose Society will meet January 28th at 7:00 p.m. at The Heritage Bank at 440 N. Jeff Davis Drive in Fayetteville. All rose growers from novice to expert are invited to attend free of charge. This month’s program features Master Rosarian Cindy Dale speaking on “Top Performing Roses for North Georgia.” Her colorful Power Point program will describe many varieties of garden roses that are the most hardy, disease resistant, and produce the most blooms in this part of the country. Members will be encouraged to share their thoughts and add their favorites to the list. As usual, Master and Consulting Rosarians will be available to answer questions on any rose topic.
