FAACE's 3rd Annual Art With Heart Art Show/Sale & Reception held Feb. 1 from 6 - 9 p.m. and Feb. 2 is 9-3 p.m. Donations will be made to Christian City Children's Home and some great donated art will be auctioned off as a fundraiser for these children by the artists. Konos Academy presents the Broadway musical "Fiddler on the Roof, Jr." Feb. 7-8 at 7 p.m. at the south campus of New Hope Baptist Church at the corner of Hwy 74/85 near Fayetteville, Peachtree CIty, Brooks, and Senoia. Students from the southern crescent tell this story of a family of Russian Jews who overcome obstacles to their traditions and their faith. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students. Piedmont Fayette Hospital is teaming up with Piedmont Heart and Piedmont Newnan Hospital to present the upcoming Healthy Heart Fair on Feb. 9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Heart disease is one of the leading causes of premature death in Fayette County so it is important we get everyone thinking about how to live a heart healthy lifestyle. Free health screenings include: Blood pressure, Body Mass Index, Cholesterol and Glucose. Free healthy heart educational materials will be available for attendees to take with them and consultations with clinicians and hospital staff about disease prevention, fitness maintenance and tips to improve your heart health and overall well-being. The community is invited to Mac Madness on Feb. 12, at 6 p.m., at the McIntosh High School stadium, when the MHS Girls Lacrosse Team takes on Northgate High School in their first scrimmage game of the season. All gate sales and proceeds from concessions and silent auction will go to the girls lacrosse team! Senoia Area Historical Society will hold it monthly meeting on Feb. 14 at the society's house/museum at 6 Couch Street in Senoia with world famed speaker, Herb Bridges, and the meeting will being at 7 p.m. Herb will give a presentation on his publication of postcards in Coweta County. The Fayette County Farm Bureau is offering local students a chance to win cash prizes and learn a little something about the importance of farming. Students in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades are encouraged to enter the Georgia Farm Bureau Middle School Essay Contest. Students should address the topic “How has agriculture changed in the last 75 years?” Students in ninth through 12th grade can enter the Georgia Farm Bureau Art Contest. The artwork should be drawn in black ink or dark soft lead pencil on an 8-1/2 x 11 inch piece of white paper. The artwork should be camera ready. The winner of the local contests will receive a $75 cash award, with $50 going to second place and $25 to third. The teacher of the winning students also will receive $50. To enter the contests, students should contact the Fayette County Farm Bureau at 770-461-3436 for an official entry form and contest rules. All entries must be received at the Fayette County Farm Bureau office by Feb. 15. Winners then will be entered in district Farm Bureau competition. American Legion Post 105 will hold their "Oratorical Contest" on Feb. 16, at 12 p.m. at the Log Cabin, Fayetteville. Scholarship awards are presented to finalists ranging from $150 for our local post winner and growing to $18,000 for the national champion. Beginning Feb. 16 through March 9, from 7 until 8 p.m., the Waltz will be taught at a beginner level and from 8 until 8:30 p.m., there will be a bonus class in Wedding Dance., also at a beginner level. The South Metro Rose Society will meet Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. at the Heritage Bank at 440 N. Jeff Davis Drive in Fayetteville. All rose growers from novice to expert are invited to attend free of charge. SMRS is proud to host the Vice Director for the Deep South District of the ARS, Phil Paul. His program is titled, "It's Fun Growing Roses in the South" and will cover rose growing basics. Mr.Paul is a Consulting Rosarian who grows about 70 roses in Florida and has won numerous awards for his contributions to the world of rose growing. This is an excellant opportunity for anyone interested in growing roses for the first time. As usual, Master and Consulting Rosarians will be available to answer questions on any rose topic. The Prostate Cancer Information Group will meet at Piedmont-Fayette Hospital on Feb. 26. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. in the Cancer Wellness Center in the 1267 Building, 3rd floor. Use the Outpatient/West Entrance. The program will be a talk on Robotic Surgery for Prostate Cancer by Scott Miller, MD of Georgia Urology.
