A pair of alleged armed carjackers picked the wrong car to jack on Friday. In a twist of irony, the two chose to steal a Jeep in the Fayetteville Autozone that ultimately broke down on the side of the road at the intersection of Hwy. 314 and 138 as they attempted to head toward Clayton County, allowing the victim who was riding in the passenger seat to flee and call 911.
Both alleged carjackers fled on foot and have yet to be apprehended.
According to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, the victim of the carjacking reported observing the two suspects inside the Fayetteville Autozone on Hwy. 314, where he was looking to buy a fuel pump for his jeep, which had broken down several times recently.
The alleged victim described both suspects as black males of light build and average height, each in their early twenties. One suspect was described as having a dark complexion and wearing a black shirt and blue jeans along with a flat top hair cut as well as a star tattoo under one of his eyes. The other suspect was described as having a light complexion and wearing a blue hat turned backwards, a Michael Jordan shirt, and a pair of Michael Jordan shoes.
The victim then allegedly left the store and got back into his Jeep, at which point the suspects threatened him with guns, forcing him to the passenger seat before driving away, heading northbound on Hwy. 314.
The car later broke down in the right turning lane from Hwy. 314 onto 138, at which point the victim allegedly fled the vehicle and was able to get a bystander to call 911.
Fayette County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the scene and were told each of the two suspects had fled on foot, one westbound and the other eastbound.
An Autozone employee confirmed that two males fitting the descriptions given had been in the store and displayed some of the behaviors that the victim described. Surveillance videos were obtained from the store.
Neither suspect has yet been apprehended.
