There's sweet music coming out of Peachtree City. Jackie Gray has just released her first cd, "Superhuman."
Gray has released singles on iTunes in the past, but it was time for a whole and complete album. The album was recorded in the Music City at Nashville's Advantage Music Productions. There was a little extra local flavor, thanks to Dana Lamb, who co-produced and played the keyboard. Lamb lives in Fayetteville and teaches at Cleveland Elementary School.
Grays's work has already gained notoriety in the area. Her single, "Without You," was written in memory of Chase Burnett, a classmate who died last year. Proceeds from the song's sale on iTunes went to the Chase Burnett Scholarship fund.
"Without You" was rerecorded for the album.
The album is the culmination of a lifelong passion. She's always wanted to be a singer. When she was growing up, if asked what she dreamed of being, it wasn't the President or a ballerina. It had to be something to do with singing, even if it used to have a funny twist. "I decided I wanted to be the first singing ice skater," said Gray. "I kinda dropped the whole ice skating dream when I couldn't rollerblade, but I never stopped wanting to be a singer."
It's a tough balance for Gray, 16 and a rising junior at McIntosh High School. Making time for music and school while also playing on the top-notch soccer team at McIntosh is fun but challenging. Ultimately, music will always be her first love.
"This is definitely something I would love to do for the rest of my life," said Gray. "It is hard trying to balance between music and sports, but I know I would choose music in a heartbeat."
It's more than just a voice with Gray. She's a multi-talented artist. Writing her own songs and playing the piano, Gray is the total package. She counts singer-songwriter types like Taylor Swift as a big influence for her willingness to speak her mind through her own lyrics. Ed Sheerhan is another favorite. "He is an incredible singer-songwriter," Gray said. "He uses a different approach and outlook through his songs which just leaves me 'fan-girling.'"
Superhuman is available for purchase on iTunes. You can follow Gray through her facebook page, Jackie Gray Music, or on at twitter with @JackieMarieGray.
