The Starr's Mill Lady Panthers left little doubt that they're a team on a mission, dispatching the Evans Knights 4-0 in round one of the state playoffs.
"The girls played well and worked tirelessly," said Starr's Mill coach John Bowen. "We didn't quite have the finishing touch we needed, but we created a ton of chances and defended very well."
Rachel Catlett, Dylan Patterson, Ariana Przybyszewski, Claire Williams, and Chayla Park shut down the Evans attack all game, keeping goalie Paige Betsill clean. Riley Clark and Carly Pressgrove dominated the middle of the pitch.
Under seven minutes into the contest the Panthers made their first strike. In a show of perseverance, the team stuck with it after a pair of shots off the post. On the same attack, Molly Moroney drilled one off the post only to see Lauren Yoss do the same off her rebound. Yoss was ready though when she got the ball back and found the back of the net.
Ten minutes later, the pair were key in the Panthers next goal. Yoss sent a crossing pass right through the heart of the box that Evans intercepted, but couldn't clear. Moroney swiped the ball and drilled it for a 2-0 lead.
Starr's Mill padded their lead with under two minutes in the first half as Leslie Logan sliced her way through the defense on an unassisted goal.
The fourth goal came early in the second half when Sarah Yoss's cross was deflected into the net by an Evans defender.
