Charles William Cook, Sr.
Charles William (Bill) Cook, Sr., born October 15, 1920 in Finleyson, GA, died June 15, 2009 surrounded by his loving family at his bedside. He was predeceased by his parents Clarence Neece Cook and Lily Butler Cook of East Point. He is survived by his brother, Robert C. (Bob) Cook and his wife, Doris Audrey Bryan Cook. Bill and Doris have shared a life of love and devotion to each other for 69 years.
Bill Cook was the father of four children, 2 sons and 2 daughters. Sons, Charles W. Cook, Jr. and daughter-in-law Annette of Emerson, GA and Michael B. Cook and daughter-in-law Robin of Sharpsburg, GA. Daughters, Pattie Cook Elliott and son-in-law Horace and Robin Cook Thomas and son-in-law Jimmy of Sharpsburg, GA. He leaves eight grandchildren, Barry Odom (Robin), Terri Calhoun (Brantley), Joanna Rhodes, John M. Cook (Jennifer), Melanie Osterhage (Jason), Bryan Thomas (Courtney), Joseph Cook (Leslie) and Michael C. Cook. Great-Grandchildren include Katie Calhoun, Karlie Calhoun, Jeremiah Odom, Sarah Odom, Jake Rhodes, Noah Osterhage, Caleb Cook, Chloe Cook, Charlotte Osterhage and Riley Anne Cook.
Bill was a longtime member and Deacon of First Baptist Church of East Point and a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Fayetteville. He was a veteran of WWII serving in Italy and North Africa. He graduated from Russell High School in 1938. Bill loved woodworking and was the sole proprietor of Cook’s Cabinet Shop of College Park and East Point. He loved and was deeply loved and respected by his family.
Visitation will be held at Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, 200 Robinson Road, Peachtree City, GA Wednesday, June 17, 2009 from 5-8 pm. Funeral Services, conducted by Bill’s grandson Rev. Barry Odom of Seattle, Washington, will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Dogwood Church, 975 Hwy. 74, Tyrone, GA. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Union City, GA. The family requests memorial donations are made to New Hope Baptist Church or Dogwood Church building funds.
