Matt Guthrie Fayette Newspapers, Inc., publishers of the Fayette County News, Today In Peachtree City, and The East Coweta Journal is pleased to announce that Matt Guthrie has been named publisher.
Guthrie, who grew up in nearby Lovejoy, will officially take the reins of the operation July 1.
“It is exciting to be back in the area,” says Guthrie.
“I was in the first graduating class of Lovejoy High School and it is a great feeling to be able to come back home to where I grew up,” said Guthrie.
Guthrie started his newspaper career at The Covington News right after he left college at the University of Georgia where he majored in Speech Communications. He then took his first publisher’s job at 24 years old in Plymouth, NC.
Since then he has held publisher positions in Richmond, VA, Washington D.C, and Hattiesburg, MS with his most recent stint in Norfolk, VA with Landmark Communications running their Military Newspaper Division.
“I am looking forward to the opportunity to get involved in all of the great communities of Fayette County. Being part of a newspaper is more than writing stories or helping businesses grow through advertising, it is about being an important part of the community. I hope to continue the great tradition set by my predecessors.”
Guthrie who is married to his wife Kim, and has two step children Landon and Brianna, is looking forward to making a home in the Fayette County area. His hobbies include playing golf and UGA football games.
“I know what a great place this area is for a family after growing up here and we are looking forward to settling down and making this area our home. It is so good to be back in an area where the Braves are on TV and I can drive to a home UGA football game.”
