The Peachtree City-based District Four All-Stars are headed to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Friday to play for a coveted slot in the Big League Baseball World Series.

Gary Snider coaches the All-Star team, which will represent Georgia at the Southern Regional Tournament this weekend for the second consecutive year.

“We had essentially two weeks to practice and prepare for the state tournament, but we spent a lot of time together,” Snider said.

“This group has not only become great friends, but they’re also a very good cohesive team.”

The District Four roster includes former Starr’s Mill ace Danny Beadling and former Fayette County first baseman Chris Crittenden, but according to Snider, most of his players never competed for their high school teams.

“What makes us different from the expensive club leagues is that these kids are out here strictly for the love of the game,” Snider explained.

“We’re purely a recreational league, but the competition is still there, especially when you get to this level.”

Big League Baseball is the high school age group version of the more well-known Little League Baseball.

Like the Little League World Series, the Big League World Series draws teams from across the country and the world to compete in front of a national ESPN television audience.

The District Four All-Stars from Peachtree City will begin regional pool play Friday afternoon, with semifinal and final rounds slated for early next week.

The locals will take on the state championship Big League teams from across the southeastern U.S. The regional winner will advance to the Big League World Series in Easley, S.C. to be held later this month.
