He served as a decorated member of the 489th Bomber Squadron in World War II, having been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal, with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters. After completing 32 missions as a flight engineer, he was honorably discharged from the Army Air Corps. He began a 38 year career with Delta Air Lines on June 13, 1945 and retired as a Foreman in Quality Control. He was an active member of the Hapeville United Methodist Church for over 55 years. Mark was a devoted husband to his wife Frances for 66 years, and beloved father to his two daughters, Ann Randolph, of Cordova, TN, and Cathy and Don White of Fayetteville. Mark is also survived by four grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren as well as his cherished cousin Betty Price, of Decatur. Always positive and outgoing, Mark enjoyed traveling, particularly to Las Vegas, with his wife and friends, and was an avid reader and steam train enthusiast. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, July 21, 2009, in the Fayetteville Chapel of Carl J. Mowell and Son Funeral Home, with Reverend Paige Pritchard officiating. Interment will be in Camp Memorial Park, in Fayetteville. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Christian City, 7345 Red Oak Rd.
