Our Lady of Mercy senior standout Megan Malasarte broke the tape at the inaugural Whitewater-hosted Decision Bridge Invitational Saturday morning. The defending Class A 400-meter and 800-meter state champ picked up steam throughout the five kilometer race, besting her closest competitor by a full 12 seconds. Malasarte finished with a time of 20:04 -- a solid showing for the unfamiliar and decidedly unique Calvin Center course in the rural Clayton County panhandle.

Whitewater’s Haley Hunt and Stacey Mangan were the next local placers, crossing the line sixth and seventh respectively.

Chapel Hill swept the girls and boys team titles, but Mercy took second on the girls side, followed by Whitewater (2nd) and Starr’s Mill (3rd). Fayette County placed 10th.

Chapel Hill’s Wade Voyles (16:08), Adonis Gaines (16:28) and Chance Eldredge (16:29) were the first three boys finishers. Mercy’s Jonathan Bridier (17:15) was the top local finisher, taking eighth. Whitewater’s Nick Londrillo was the next Fayette runner, placing 14th. Whitewater took fifth as a team.

McIntosh ran at the Carrollton Invitational Saturday. The Chiefs boys took first place team honors in the Class AAAA division. Carl Eifert led the way, rebounding from a rough Berry race last Saturday to place second overall with a time of 17:46. John Janigian (18:02) finished fifth. Matt Lein (18:17) took seventh place for McIntosh
