Early voting begins today

2009-10-13

By Martha Barksdale

Don’t want to wait in a long line on election day? Maybe you’re one of those poor souls who would have to visit two polling places in order to cast your vote in both the city council race and the county SPLOST referendum on Nov. 3.

Early voting could save you some grief. Beginning today you can cast your ballot at the Fayette County Board of Elections Office on Stonewall Avenue in Fayetteville. The office is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Early voting ends Oct. 23.

All Fayette voters can vote in the referendum to renew the Special Purpose Local Options Sales Tax for another six years. Voters in Fayetteville, Peachtree City and Tyrone will also be able to cast ballots in their municipal elections. Brooks and Woolsey will have no elections this year since their vacant posts are unopposed.

Advance voting will be held Oct. 26 though 30 at the Peachtree City Library, the Tyrone Library and the county elections office.

You need not give a reason for early or advance voting. Anyone who cannot appear in person to vote can request an absentee ballot.

Call the county board of elections office at (770) 305-5408 for more information.

If you haven’t registered to vote yet, disregard the above. Oct. 5 was the last day to register.
