Peachtree City mayoral hopefuls Scott Rowland and Cyndi Plunkett have raised and spent significantly more money on their campaigns than their fellow Peachtree City municipal office candidates.
According to Campaign Contribution Disclosure Reports filed with the city clerk, Rowland and Plunkett have each raised more than $8,000 to fund their campaigns for mayor.
Post 3 city council candidate Kim Learnard reported just over $4,500 in funds raised, which is the third highest total among the 12 candidates who will appear on Tuesday’s ballot.
Don Haddix, who is running against both Plunkett and Rowland for mayor, was fourth -- reporting $2,338.24 in total contributions. However, the vast majority of Haddix’s campaign funds came from personal loans.
Post 4 candidate Vanessa Fleisch is the only other candidate to report contributions of over $2,000. She listed total contributions to date as $2,040.22.
Post 1 candidates Beth Pullias and Shelby Barker; Post 3 candidates Steve Boone and Bob Walsh, and Post 4 candidate Les Dyer each reported contributions and expenditures between $1,000 and $2,000. Post 1 candidates David Craig and Eric Imker have raised and spent less than $1,000 on their campaigns.
Plunkett was the most active fundraiser last cycle, and she has received support from a handful of fellow local politicians. Former Peachtree City mayor Bob Lenox gave $500 to Plunkett’s campaign. Former Peachtree City Airport Authority Chairman Mike Brady donated $1,000, current Fayette County Commissioner Herb Frady gave $150 and fellow Commissioner Eric Maxwell gave $500. Local State Sen. Ronnie Chance and Local State Rep. Matt Ramsey sponsored a luncheon for Plunkett, donating $155 each in-kind.
Rowland leads the overall fundraising effort with $9,992, but he did most of his fundraising and spending prior to the last reporting cycle. In his Oct. 7 report, Rowland listed $1,895 from donations of $101 or less.
Most candidates listed expenditures for campaign materials and advertising. Haddix’s Oct. 1 report listed his election filing fee as his only expenditure of over $101.
All 12 candidates have until Friday to submit their campaign disclosure reports for the current cycle. As of press time, only Learnard had filed her most up to date paperwork.
