Current election results show all Fayetteville City Council incumbents will return for four more years. Poll numbers are set to be verified Friday.
Walt White, Larry Dell, and Paul Oddo will remain on the Fayetteville City Council in Posts 3, 4 and 5, respectively.
Dell, who, in unofficial reports, beat challenger Mickey Edwards by a close 14 votes, said he is pleased to see so many local residents were passionate about the race.
“The main thing is that I am glad people are using their constitutional right to vote, regardless whether they voted for me or my opponent” he explained.
“We had double the turnout of voters this year which means there was a lot of interest in the election. The more interest we have in an election, the better the service we’ve got.”
Dell also said he is excited to begin another four years of service.
“I appreciate the vote of confidence and I still love to serve. I love the city - I have been here half my life. I still want to work for the city,” he added.
Dell’s challenger Mickey Edward said he expected a close race this year.
“I expected it to be lose but I didn’t know if I would win or not,” he remarked.
“It came down to who got the most voters out and Larry did a better job.”
“Because it was so close, it seemed like people who did vote were split,” he continued, “Almost half of the people who voted must think like me, so I hope the present administration considers some of the points I made.”
When asked if Edwards planned to run again in the future, he said “he would wait and see.”
Post 4 incumbent Walt White received 779 votes, according to unofficial reports, winning a large majority over challenger Patty White, who received 490.
“I think the election turned out great and I want to thank citizens for their vote of confidence. I look forward to serving for the next four years,” White stated.
Like Dell, White was pleased with the voter turnout this year for the municipal elections.
“Being an off year, with residents having to vote at two different places for SPLOST and city elections - I think Fayetteville did real well this year,” he remarked.
Patty Hawkins could not be reached for comment.
Finally, incumbent Paul Oddo achieved a close victory over challenger Bill Dick, with 681 votes to 579, according to unofficial reports.
“I am pleased I was re-elected. I put a lot of effort into this election,” stated Oddo, who said his wife was a great help to his campaign.
“They say behind every great man is a great woman pushing him along, and that is definitely true!” he said.
“She was a tremendous support.”
Oddo also thanked the voters for re-electing him to a second term of office.
“I am very humbled and I am looking forward to representing them for the next four years.”
“And I represent all the citizens, those who voted for me and those who voted for others,” Oddo added.
Challenger Bill Dick could also not be reached for comment.
The Election Summary Report for Fayette County will be verified Friday, and final numbers will be reported.
