Senior Leadership Program to be held at Clayton State PTC campus

Encore Fayette, in partnership with Clayton State University’s Continuing Education Program, will provide a Senior Leadership Program for retirees over 50 in January.

Course participants will visit local community organizations and participate in exercises to further their leadership skills.

“The program is geared toward individuals who want to know more about Fayette County - its history, government, and arts. They will learn all about what this community has to offer,” explained Linda Pirog with Encore Fayette.

“Retirees will also find out information about volunteer opportunities they can participate in if they so choose.”

Pirog said the course is essential for retirees looking to get more involved locally.

“It’s so important for retirees to stay active. You can only play so much golf,” she explained.

“This course emphasizes staying active and helps give them projects they can wrap their arms around and make an impact in their community.”

This is the second year of the Encore Fayette Senior Leadership Program. Thirty-two graduates from last year’s program are now actively involved in volunteer positions across the county, according to Pirog.

The course costs $150, which covers program materials and continental breakfast and lunch for each class. Scholarships and payment plans are also available.

Participants will meet every Thursday starting January, 2010. Encore will be accepting applications until Dec. 15, 2009.

Interested applicants can attend several information sessions in the coming weeks, including Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 9:30 a.m. at Town Club in Peachtree City, Monday Nov. 23 at 11 a.m. at the Fayette Senior Services, and Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 11:30 a.m. at the Peachtree City United Methodist Church.
