Advance voting will begin Monday for the Peachtree City runoff elections, according to Fayette County Elections Superintendent Tom Sawyer.
The runoff election is set for Tuesday, Dec. 1.
Advance voting will be done at the elections office in the County Administrative Complex on Stonewall Avenue in Fayetteville from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday Nov. 16 through Wednesday Nov. 25.
On Monday, Nov. 23, early voting will begin at the Peachtree City Library. Voters will be able to cast ballots there through Wednesday Nov. 25, also 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, Sawyer said.
“Our offices will be closed Nov. 26 and 27 for
Thanksgiving, and there will be no voting on those days or on Monday Nov. 30,” he said. He added that anyone who votes on Tuesday Dec. 1 will have to do it at his or her regular polling place.
Sawyer said some people had asked him about longer hours for the advance voting, maybe 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. some days, but he said that was just not economically feasible for such a small election. “Maybe next year when we have a bigger ballot,” he said.
Any Peachtree City resident who was eligible to vote in the municipal election on Nov. 3 can vote in the runoff, even if they didn’t vote in the general election.
In the Dec. 1 runoff, Don Haddix and Cyndi Plunkett, former city council colleagues, will square off for the mayor’s job.
Other runoffs feature political newcomers. Beth Pullias and Eric Imker will compete to fill the remaining two years of Haddix’s Post 1 seat. For the Post 3 council seat, Kim Learnard and Bob Walsh made it to the runoff.
