Saying that Georgia and NCR are looking to the future, Gov. Sonny Perdue cut the ribbon on NCR’s Services Center of Excellence in Peachtree City yesterday.
The 360,000 square foot facility includes NCR’s Global Service Parts headquarters, its Americas Customer Care Center hub and the NCR University training center, all of which support self-service and assisted-service technologies used in airports, retailers, telecommunications and health care companies in North America and Latin America.
The NCR Services Center of Excellence brings more than 900 jobs to Peachtree City and represents a capital investment of $15 million by NCR. NCR’s existing facility, opened in 1972 in Peachtree City’s industrial park, was remodeled to house these three facilities.
Commissioner Ken Stewart of the Georgia Department of Economic Development called this “a tri-fecta within a tri-fecta.” The first tri-fecta is the three facilities in the Peachtree City building, and the second are the three new NCR locations in Georgia--the Services Center of Excellence, along with a manufacturing plant in Columbus and NCR’s world headquarters in Duluth.
The governor said he was impressed by the speed at which the state and NCR worked to make the deal happen--the Peachtree City relocation was announced about a year ago. All the NCR executives who spoke commented on how impressed they were with Quick Start, the state’s workforce training program that has trained personnel for Duluth and Peachtree City. In all, Perdue noted, NCR is bringing 3,000 jobs to Georgia in these three facilities.
At the ribbon cutting ceremony, Fayette County Commission Chairman Jack Smith reflected on what NCR’s investment in the community means. He said while realtors see new homebuyers, retailers see customers, and governments see tax money, he sees new residents who will make our community better.
“We are excited about NCR’s decision to invest in Peachtree City. In a time of national economic hardship, Peachtree city is celebrating new jobs and an expansion of our local tax base, and for that we thank NCR,” said Peachtree City Mayor Harold Logsdon.
