Kerlin: Horse abuse, Al Gore’s hot air and Obama lied

2010-01-11

By Tom Kerlin

I've been around long enough and traveled across this country enough to know there are some sick people out there. I'm not talking about the unhealthy sick people.
I'm talking about the ones who are sick in their mind, the ones whose minds work in ways that I cannot understand.
Such is the case of the person, or people, who, a few days ago, shot at least three arrows into a horse belonging to the Padovano family in Brooks.

It takes a real punk to take aim with a bow and arrow at a defenseless horse, grazing in a pasture, presumably safe from harm.

It is my fervent hope that by the time this article is published our Sheriff’s Department will have identified the culprit and made an arrest (see page 1).

If not, someone out there knows who did this and they need to come forward with the necessary information that will lead to the arrest of the guilty party.

I stand by my statement published in the news story Tuesday: "Anyone who does something like that deserves what they have coming to them in the justice system. Such attacks are absolutely uncalled for."

And I will add this: Anyone who knows who did this dastardly deed and keeps silent about it deserves the same fate as the one who did the actual shooting.

Brrr.. It's cold outside. It's even a little cold inside. I can't help but wonder how cold it would be were it not for global warming. We would probably be seeing ice fishing on Starr's Mill pond.

I read a news story just the other day about a request by two members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to take back the Academy Award given to the film "An Inconvenient Truth" because of the recent information concerning the apparent falsification of temperature records that were being used by scientists to "prove" the theory about global warming, that is to say "climate change."

The attempt by Roger L. Simon and Lionel Chetwynd has about as much a chance of succeeding as does Michael Moore being asked to speak at a Republican Prayer Breakfast.

But it is refreshing to know that there are some people in Hollywood who haven't bought into this politically correct climate change business.

Meanwhile, up in Alaska, two businessmen have re-erected an ice-sculpture statue of Al Gore outside their liquor store in Fairbanks. The two-ton "Frozen Gore" statue is hooked to the exhaust of a pickup and is said to give the impression that Gore is spouting hot air.

Craig Compeau and Rudy Gavora say they are suspicious of Gore's financial motivation behind his involvement with the global warming movement. They want him to come to Fairbanks to discuss his theories.

And even though scientists who claim global warming is real say the average temperature of Alaska has risen three degrees in the past 50 years, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service says the average temperature in 2009 was 27.8 degrees, just one degree above the average.

One more thing about Gore. The next time you are on your computer, take a look at snopes.com and search for gore bush houses. See who the real environmentalists is.

And ask yourself, why doesn't Al Gore put his money where his mouth is?

I can still hear the chants from the liberals, "Bush lied. Bush lied."

I know former president George W. Bush didn't do the best job as a president. But I sincerely believe he never "lied."
I believe he was given some faulty information which he relied on when making his decisions. And it was subsequently learned that the information was indeed wrong.

But that is not lying.

You want to know what lying is? I'll tell you.

President Barack Obama said at least eight times in various speeches that the debate on health care reform would be open to the public and broadcast on C-Span so the American public could see the process and be a part of it.

It ain't happened. President Obama made a promise and then apparently thought that you and I would simply forget what he said. Or he made a promise and never meant to keep it. Or he made a promise and doesn't have the backbone to make the Democrats in Congress follow through.

Either way. He lied. He lied. He lied to us.
