Bank of America robbed, customers help themselves, too

2010-01-12

By Martha Barksdale

Fayetteville Police have no new leads in their investigation of Saturday's robbery at the Bank of America on Highway 314 North that turned into a community event as customers scooped up bills dropped by the bandits in the parking lot.

Capt. Steve Crawshaw said two black males entered the bank at approximately 1 p.m. on Saturday. The men, wearing black hoodies, masks and gloves, displayed handguns and ordered everyone to get on the ground.

After taking the money, the duo fled on foot.
Crawshaw said police recovered some of the money in the parking lot.

Customers also picked up some money and did not return it to the police or the bank.

"We are reviewing video to identify the robbers, witnesses and also those customers who picked up the money," Crawshaw said.

Anyone with any information should call the Fayetteville Police Department at (770) 461-4441.
