Mrs. Phyllis Dale Hammel, of Fayetteville, affectionately known to many as “Granny�, died on Jan. 16, 2010 at the age of 70. Mrs. Hammel was a loving mother and grandmother who loved to travel and spend time with her family. She worked at the Base Exchange at Ft. Gillem for over 23 years. Following her retirement she was a volunteer at the “Fayette Thrift Store�. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry William Hammel, Sr. Mrs. Hammel is survived by her son Larry William Hammel, Jr. (Ann) of Lawrenceville; daughter Renee Goddard (Bill) of Jonesboro; grandchildren Britton Hammel-Cobb, John Hammel and Clara Hammel; sisters Peggy Boss (Jerry) of Franklin, Tn, Patty Kegelmeyer of San Ramon, Ca; brother Chip Britt (Kay) of Clayton, N.C.; and grand dog Bandit. Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 18, 2010 at 3 p.m. in the Fayetteville chapel of Carl J. Mowell and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Hinton Harris and Rev. Glenn Stringham officiating. The burial will follow at Camp Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday. |
