A Fayette County man was killed earlier this week after his car collided with a tractor trailer on Interstate 20 near Madison, Ga.

As reported by the Morgan County Citizen, Larry Jones, 49, of Fayetteville, died instantly when the 2008 Suzuki Forenza he was driving eastbound on Interstate 20 crossed through the median and struck the side of a tanker truck.

Georgia State Patrol Senior Trooper Larry Seabolt said the accident occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. Monday.

David Matthew White, 48, Decatur, was driving the 2009 Freightliner transfer truck that Jones’ Suzuki struck but was not injured in the accident.

Seabolt said a cause for the wreck was unknown and may never be ascertained. Seabolt said witnesses to the accident reported that Jones’ vehicle drifted from the right-hand lane and through the median before striking the Freightliner with enough force to shear off a rear axle. Witnesses reported that the Suzuki’s brake lights were never engaged.
