Railroad crossing closure tops in Tyrone |

By Adrienne Leon |
The Tyrone Town Council asks everyone to attend a public hearing on the potential closure of the Valleywood Railroad Crossing, which kicks off the regular scheduled meeting tonight at Tyrone Town Hall, 7 p.m, on 881 Senoia Road.
Residents can address concerns about the possible closing of the railroad crossing, historically regarded as a site for traffic accidents and traveling inconveniences.
Although concensus of the public may have some influence, their decision to accept a proposed agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation to shut down the crossing and relocate it to East Crestwood Road is largely based on keeping the project under $225,000, which GDOT cannot guarantee.
GDOT’s plan would close two railroad crossings in Tyrone, extend Park Drive and create a new crossing at East Crestwood, possible aligned with West Crestwood Road across Senoia Road.
GDOT has told Tyrone it needs a contract with the town by Feb. 10 or it will have to scrap the project.
Tyrone Mayor Don Rehwaldt will follow with updates on the town's inclement weather policy.
Under new business, the council will review a request for use of Shamrock Park and waiver of rental fee for the town Easter Egg Hunt, scheduled March 27. A rental fee waiver and use facility request will also be voted on for the Tyrone Back to School Bash scheduled for July 31.
