Hunter Bening’s walk-off two-run home run won game one for Whitewater on Wednesday night.
(Staff Phot It couldn't have been scripted any better for the Whitewater baseball team which took the first two games of a best-of-three series against Alcovy, clinching a spot in the state playoffs.
The game one heroics came courtesy of Hunter Bening who, in the face of two outs and a full count, crushed a walk-off two-run homer to lift the Wildcats to a 4-2 victory.
"It was 0-2 and I was just trying to stay in and get a hit," Bening said. "Then I just saw the pitch and I knew exactly what was going to happen next."
"This was my first walk-off home run ever so it was a feeling like no other," Bening added.
The hangover from the devastating loss in game one was evident in game two as Alcovy watched John Mark Rhodes slap a three-run shot over the fence in the bottom of the top of the first to give Whitewater a commanding lead.
The Wildcats did not stop there as they burst the game open with five runs in the second inning to go up 7-0, before ultimately winning in blowout fashion by a final score of 12-2.
Evan Gresham finished with a triple and three RBI and Taylor Turner followed that up with a double and two RBI for the Wildcats who improved to19-6 overall and 11-3 in the region for the season. |
