Newnan native Scott Thompson, award-winning author of Young Men Shall See, will appear at the Peachtree City Library on June 16, at 1 p.m., to discuss and sign copies of the book. Youth Sports Camps for Grades 6—12 at Brooks UMC ~ There will be 2 youth sports camps this summer for grades 6—12 in the Brooks UMC gym. The first camp will be June 18-22 and will be a “Strength, Conditioning & Speed Training Camp” which will be a good physical training camp for all sports. The second camp will be an “All Sports Camp” the week of July 9-13 and will be a fun week of playing different sports such as volleyball, basketball, dodge ball and kickball. Dementia Caregiver Support Group - The Sixty Plus Program at Piedmont Fayette Hospital offers a monthly support group for the caregivers of older adults with memory loss. Designed to be both informational and supportive, the group will provide a confidential and welcoming atmosphere for family members and friends who want to learn more about dementia. The emotional, medical, legal and financial aspects of this condition will be discussed at meetings. The group is facilitated by a licensed social worker and is open to anyone in the community. Co-sponsored by Sixty Plus Older Adult Services and the Alzheimer’s Association. June is the perfect time of year to take cuttings from mature shrubs and plants to propagate new ones. You can learn “how-to” at the Master Gardener Extension Volunteer (MGEV) workshop scheduled for June 23, from 9 – 11 a.m. at the Coweta County Extension Greenhouse (located beside the Horse Arena at the Coweta County Fairgrounds). A workshop fee of $15 includes instruction by experienced Master Gardener Extension Volunteers, all plant materials and supplies, and 12 newly propagated plants to take home. One Book—One Peachtree City Bookmark Design Contest for Children. What do you like most about Peachtree City? What does “one book—one Peachtree City” mean to you? If you can put your ideas into art, and you are age 6—12 and use the Peachtree City Library, you are invited to enter the Bookmark Design Contest. Entry forms are available only in the Children’s Department of the Library, and must be returned there by July 13. There will be at least two prizes. A Gold Prize will be a $50 gift certificate to Omega Bookstore. A Silver Prize will be a $25 gift certificate to Omega. There may be other prizes, as well. The winners designs will be used on bookmarks to be distributed at the library.

Reformers Unanimous, an addiction program, will begin in the Fall at Woolsey Baptist Church, 115 Hampton Road in Fayetteville. Benjamin Burks will be at Woolsey Baptist Church on June 29 from 7-9 p.m. to give an overview of the program. Mr Burks is the International Director of Reformers Unanimous, which is a faith based addiction program based out of Rockford, Illinois. Right now, there are over 800 chapters in the U.S. and other countries with a success rate better than 82% for persons with addictions who complete program. We encourage Judges, counselors, law enforcement and anyone who may come in contact with persons suffering from addictions to attend.
