Summer Reading Program at the PTC Library, ages birth - 16. The theme this summer is "Dream Big, Read.” Youngsters can pick up their free reading log and read for prizes. Among the many events and activities are Babytime; storytelling and crafts; Ken Scott, magic, and Todd Key, juggler; movies; performances by Dream Big Drum Loud and Cliff Patton, ventriloquist ; and a workshop for tweens/teens on magic. The Peachtree City Rotary Club is signing up teams for the Sept. 22 Dragon Boat Races. Team registration is $600 for 10 rowers and one drummer. Wellspring Living will host its 7th annual Race to Restore 5K: Run for Her Future in Peachtree City. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the race will benefit comprehensive healing programs to restore women and girls who have been sexually abused or trafficked. Celebrate the 4th of July in Peachtree City. The parade begins at 9:00 a.m. on Peachtree Parkway South (near Braelinn Golf Club) and will proceed north to McIntosh Trail and end at the Recreation Complex/Huddleston Elementary School. Stakes, tables, tents, and other large objects in the City right-of-way of Peachtree Parkway that create a safety hazard will be removed. Everyone come and Celebrate Independence Day ~ July 4 ~ as the body of Christ together, hosted by the Peachtree City United Methodist Church, Windgate Campus! The Declaration of Independence Reading will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the PTCUMC Windgate Campus located at 400 Windgate Road in PTC. The Belfry Bell will ring at 2 p.m. Let Freedom Ring is a nationwide celebration honoring those who helped achieve our country's independence during the American Revolution. The annual Let Freedom Ring ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. on July 4th on the grounds of the Old Fayette County Courthouse in Fayetteville. The short, yet meaningful ceremony, will honor the men who signed the Declaration of Independence. The ceremony lasts about twenty minutes. Bring lawn chairs for seating. Both developing and advanced level volleyball players will experience a dynamic high intensity skills, drills, and conditioning program. Poetry Contest open to Fayetteville area poets. A $1,000 grand prize is being offered to the last poet standing in a free contest sponsored by the Celestial Arts Society. One Book—One Peachtree City Bookmark Design Contest for Children. What do you like most about Peachtree City? What does “one book—one Peachtree City” mean to you? If you can put your ideas into art, and you are age 6—12 and use the Peachtree City Library, you are invited to enter the Bookmark Design Contest. Entry forms are available only in the Children’s Department of the Library, and must be returned there by July 13. There will be at least two prizes. A Gold Prize will be a $50 gift certificate to Omega Bookstore. A Silver Prize will be a $25 gift certificate to Omega. There may be other prizes, as well. The winners designs will be used on bookmarks to be distributed at the library.

Dementia Caregiver Support Group - The Sixty Plus Program at Piedmont Fayette Hospital offers a monthly support group for the caregivers of older adults with memory loss. Designed to be both informational and supportive, the group will provide a confidential and welcoming atmosphere for family members and friends who want to learn more about dementia. The emotional, medical, legal and financial aspects of this condition will be discussed at meetings. The group is facilitated by a licensed social worker and is open to anyone in the community. Co-sponsored by Sixty Plus Older Adult Services and the Alzheimer’s Association.
The group meets the Third Wednesday of each month from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Piedmont Fayette Hospital, West entrance, 1267 Building Cancer Wellness Center, third floor.
